Leadership and History

Formerica was founded in Taiwan in 2000 by Dr. Albert Wey, who has over 40 years of experience in the optoelectronics industry. Dr. Wey received his PhD in Physics from the University of Chicago, as well as an MBA from Arizona State University.

Dr. Wey was a pioneer at Westinghouse in the development of TFT technology and later set up Motorola's optoelectronics lab. He was also the recipient of the 1985 Minority Entrepreneur of the Year Award by President Ronald Regan.

In 2015, Joseph Liu joined Formerica as President, and was named CEO in 2016.

Mr. Liu has over 40 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, including extensive experience in manufacturing efficiency, quality, and operational excellence.

His experience includes 20 years at Texas Instruments, and 15 years at Diodes Inc. where he played a key role in growing the company from $15M in 1990 to $920M in 2015.

The company has been a preferred supplier to one of the world's largest medical equipment manufacturers since 2003, and now has over 100 employees.

Formerica is strictly committed to adhering to all laws regarding environmental protection, and engaging in full company participation and constant improvement in energy savings and green house gas reduction.
